The vision of the RCE Hokkaido Central is<\/h3>\n

to realize a sustainable regional society over the next 100 years<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

by base on the history and development of Hokkaido. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Under this vision, we will provide opportunities for stakeholders to gather and share their knowledge of ESD and the type of sustainable society suitable to Central Hokkaido. In parallel, we will also implement various educational projects and programs. We will strive to make a model of a sustainable society in the Central Hokkaido region so that people from all over the world would come to learn from our experiences.<\/p>\n

The characteristics of a sustainable society realized over the coming century<\/span><\/strong> by RCE Hokkaido Central are as follows:<\/p>\n

1. Coexistence with nature in a large city:<\/strong>
\n(1) An environment capitalizing the richness of national parks to further the coexistence of nature within a densely populated city.
\n(2) An environment with buffer zones to allow intimate yet appropriate proximity to wild animals.
\n(3) An environment exploiting natural services for disaster prevention.
\n(4) An environment with spaces where people can feel close to nature such as waterways, foot trails and bicycle\/wagon roads.
\n(5) An environment where people appreciate the worth of nature and choose to live the best life possible with nature.<\/p>\n

2. Multicultural society respecting human rights and celebrating diversity:<\/strong>
\n(1) A society where people enjoy freedom of choice and responsibility regardless of descent, beliefs, and gender.
\n(2) A society where much emphasis is placed on diversity in consensus building.
\n(3) A creative society where people depend on each other and learn continuously together about lessons from history.
\n(4) A society where members recognize themselves as citizens of a global community and engage in active and direct exchanges with people in other regions around the world.<\/p>\n

3. Economy respecting life and humanity as well as recycling resources:<\/strong>
\n(1) A sustainable economy at a suitable size for Central Hokkaido, realized in cooperation with other regions.
\n(2) An economy conscious of the entire Earth and that ensures its actions do not contribute to the exploitation of other regions around the world.
\n(3) An economy where business\/enterprises nurturing employee happiness and respect can flourish.
\n(4) An economy whose energy needs are met by renewable sources.
\n(5) An economy based on the production and consumption of local foods.
\n(6) An economy that provides highly attractive products, services and tourism and so on made in Central Hokkaido.
\n(7) An economy achieving a capital circuit within Central Hokkaido with long-term residents or persons residing in two or more locations.<\/p>\n
